Jonathan Christie Hunter (15 February 1973 – 17 May 2022)

Born February 15th, 1973, in Detroit, Michigan, to Chris and Harriette Hunter, Jon lived there until 1980. Following a couple of years in San Diego, California, the family moved to Falmouth, Maine and then to Cohasset, Massachusetts, where Jon graduated from Cohasset High School as a member of the National Honor Society, Vice President of his class and captain of the debate and golf teams. He then went to Dickinson College in Carlisle, Pennsylvania, where he got his BA in history, and then to Suffolk University in Boston for his law degree, where he won 1st place in the Moot Court Trial Competition.

Work was important to Jon. Having first helped run his mother’s business Merit Staffing in Massachusetts, Jon embarked on a long and successful career in management consulting, first with the George Group and then Accenture.

A lover of sport and the great outdoors, Jon picked up volleyball and golf early on, the latter of which would remain a great passion (and source of much self-inflicted frustration) throughout his life.

It was while living in Boston that Jon met Meredith and loved to tell the story of her argyll socks under an otherwise flamboyant outfit the night they met – he knew at that moment she was “the one” but only after testing her on how many Supreme Court justices there were. Where all others had failed, Meredith passed his test, and they were inseparable ever since. They were married in Savannah, Georgia, in 2002 and lived in Boston with their much-loved boxer, Maisie.

Following a brief period in Roanoke, Virginia, career opportunities and a love of Europe took Jon, Meredith, and Maisie to London in 2010. Active participants in the local Marylebone community, the arrival of their daughter, Emma, in 2011 brought a new chapter to their lives. Emma was his pride and joy in every way, fostering in her a love of cooking, music and the outdoors, as well as a joy in learning and an ability to speak her mind. In every place he lived, Jon made friends through walking his dogs, first Maisie, then Boudica.

Following his departure from his role as a Managing Director at Accenture, Jon’s career also entered a new and more entrepreneurial phase. He loved his work helping both smaller ventures and bigger businesses alike to grow, often giving generous amounts of his time and lovingly brutal feedback to worthy causes. Jon’s intelligence, aptitude for debate and strongly-formed opinions were never more evident than when he sat across from a friend or colleague over a coffee or, in his later years, a bourbon. His analytical mind and ability to always see the bigger picture guided him through many positions in his career but all related to strategic thinking, innovation and problem solving.

For all of life’s complexities, Jon’s most treasured moments were those he spent with his family and friends. A family hike in the Lake District; kickboxing or building Lego with Emma; poker with friends; cooking a gourmet meal; a round of golf with mates or a fierce exchange of opinions on business, politics, music or history.

Always one to tell it like it is, Jon’s sarcasm was legendary, but so was his loyalty. Jon has left a big hole in many lives and will be most lovingly remembered by his wife of nearly 20 years, Meredith, and his daughter, Emma. Jon is also survived by and will be sorely missed by his father, Chris; brother, Jason; and all those who knew and loved him.
